Zhujiajiao belongs to the Qingpu district of Shanghai city, which is located on the west of Shanghai and south-central Qingpu district, and it is near the Dianshan Lake scenic area. To the East is the boundary between Daying and Huancheng, to the west is Dianshan Lake and Daguanyuan scenic area. To the south is Shenxiang town (merged with it in 2001), and to the north is Dianshan Lake Town, Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. It is 6 kilometers away from Qingpu Town in the East and 48 killometers away from the downtown of Shanghai. National Highway 318 runs through this town. The total area of the town is 136.85 square kilometers (including water area). In 1991, Zhujiajiao was listed as one of the four famous historical and cultural towns in Shanghai. In 2007, it was rated as the third batch of “Chinese historical and cultural towns (villages)”. On Oct.14, 2016, Zhujiajiao Town was rated as the first batch of towns with Chinese characteristics by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development. On May.24, 2018, Zhujiajiao Town was selected as the top 50 of the most beautiful small towns.

The natural resources of Zhujiajiao Town are mainly concentrated in the area of Dianshan Lake, the only freshwater lake in Shanghai, covering an area of 62.0 square kilometers, of which Qingpu area covers an area of 47.5 square kilometers. In Qingpu area, there are four big fishes: black, grass, silver, and bighead carps, carp; bream, crucian carp, silver carp in Dianshan Lake, and river shrimp, Chinese mitten crab, turtle, snail, yellow clam and mussel. Otherwise, catfish and tilapia introduced from other places have also been bred locally.
